Our Canadian Yachting Association certified sailing instructors teach and evaluate the following sailing levels.
White Sail
White Sail Levels I, II and III are the introductory levels. Beginners are introduced to and taught the basic skills of sailing. These levels cover safety, seamanship and boat handling in winds up to 9 knots velocity.
Boats used:

Optimists – small and easy to sail, Optis are great for young sailors.

Echos – a perfect introduction to double-handed sailing.

O’pen Bic – a brand new class of boats for new sailors – light, easy to sail, but fast and fun. We have six brand new O’pen Bics this season. For more information, go to www.openbic.com.
CYA Requirements for Certification:
Bronze Sail
Bronze Sail Levels IV and V are levels where sailors are introduced to advanced sailing techniques, including sail trim, boat tuning, boat maintenance, trapezing and the use of the spinnaker. After completing the bronze standards, sailors are competent in winds up to 25 km/hr.
Boats used:

420s – With a spinnaker and trapeze, the sloop-rigged 420 is perfect for learning advanced sailing skills.
CYA Requirements for Certification:
Silver Sail
Silver Sail Level VI covers basic racing skills. A sailor with his or her Silver sail is a competent racer, with knowledge of race strategy and advanced boat handling. Members of the race team will be able to challenge for their Silver this year.
