BBYC Spring Series

 Bedford Basin Yacht Club is excited to offer a spring clinic for sailors of various abilities.  This clinic will be held over 8 separate weekends through May and June in preparation for the sailing season.  This clinic will be taught by Mike Todd who will be the race team coach at BBYC this season.

This coaching clinic will be for any and all sailors who are in bronze sail level or above.  We are interested in getting as many sailors on the water as possible in the early season to develop their skills in the boat before the summer season is upon us. 

The eight week program will see a constant progression of skills the athletes will require to improve their on water sailing ability.  The sessions will progress through boat handling into tactics and strategy and into endurance by the end of June. 

The clinic will include structured on water sessions, video feedback and debrief discussions.  The day is set up from 12 noon and runs through 5pm each Saturday and Sunday starting the first weekend in May. 

Boats used will be 420s, Lasers and Laser Radials.  If you do not have a boat, BBYC has a few 420’s that are available for charter.

Price for the 8 week session:   $280.00

BBYC Spring 2010 Sailing Registration

Sailors will not be permitted to sail without appropriate seasonal apparel, wetsuits, spray tops, booties, gloves and hats, etc.

High Performance Race Coach/Silver Program

BBYC is pleased to annouce the Mike Todd will be the 2010 Silver Coach.  

Coaching Experience and Levels:

• Nova Scotia Sailing Team coach from 2006-2009
• Nova Scotia Canada Games Coach, Summerside PEI in 2009
• High Performance Race Team coach at Lavalette YC, New Jersey from 2003-2004
• Fully certified level 3 coach
• 10 of 12 tasks of Level 4 coach completed
• Kinesiology Degree from Dalhousie University

Coaching Highlights:

• Coached Laser World Championship in Halifax, 2009.  Top athlete ranked  16 in silver fleet
• Coached Canada Games Sailing Team to winning 1 gold and 3 silver medals and winning the team competition for the first time in NS history in 2009
• Coached National Development Team Training Camp in 2009
• Coached at the 2009 Delta Lloyd Regatta (World Cup Event), Medemblik Holland
• Coached at the 2009 Miami OCR (World Cup Event), Miami Florida

Summer Junior Sailing registration is now open.  You can register at Bedford Basin Yacht Club during the following hours.

Fridays from 3:00pm to 10:00pm
Sunday from 1:00pm to 7:00pm

REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR 2010

Sailing at BBYC emphasizes safety, good sportsmanship, friendships, skills on and off the water, and most of all fun! Courses are taught by Canadian Yachting Association certified instructors. CYA is the national sport organization for sailing in Canada.  They provide us with the technical resources, materials and national standards from which we design and deliver our Learn to Sail Program.  All our instructors have received training based on CYA national standards. 

The BBYC Learn to Sail Program offers children the opportunity to achieve CYA certification in White, Bronze and Silver Sail. 

Registration Dates:

Members Only Night     February 24^th, 2010       7:00 – 9:00pm

Returning Sailors         February 25^th, 2010       7:00 – 9:00pm

New Sailors                  March 3^rd, 2010             7:00 – 9:00pm

Registration takes place at BBYC and numbers are limited, so please register early!!  

Please make sure you bring you child’s MSI number and family doctors contact information!
